Porcelain Veneers

Many people have benefitted from the beauty and durability that porcelain veneers offer. To answer whether or not porcelain veneers in Orlando, FL are permanent, our cosmetic dentist must first explain the process.

A porcelain veneer is extremely thin, but it does add bulk to a tooth. To remedy this, Dr. Michaelson shaves off a thin layer of tooth enamel. Equivalent to the veneer's thickness, this alteration allows the dental veneer to sit naturally among your other teeth and not stand out.

Because we permanently alter the tooth, the process for getting porcelain veneers is irreversible. We can’t replace tooth enamel once we remove it, and you will need to commit to wearing veneers for the rest of your life.

However, veneers themselves are not permanent. While the porcelain shells can last as long as ten years with proper care, they will need to be replaced at some point due to natural wear and tear.

Thanks to the smooth ceramic surface, your veneers won’t attract stains as your natural teeth can. However, keep in mind that they are super-thin and prone to chipping along the edges, so avoid hard, crunchy foods and habits like chewing on ice.

Keeping these tips in mind and ensuring your teeth and gums stay healthy with daily brushing and flossing can help you get years of use out of your porcelain veneers. Call to schedule an appointment with our Orlando cosmetic dentist to get started.

While every dentist touches upon how to do veneers in dental school, the skill level required to provide you with a beautiful smile extends far beyond dental school.  Cosmetic dentistry is an art that is learned with advanced training in aesthetics as well as by experience.  With this training, skills are learned as to what proportions and dimensions create a beautiful and natural looking smile.  A dentist trained in this art will also utilize a specialty lab that has the same skill level. Porcelain veneers done by an inexperienced dentist will most certainly not look the same or last as long as when done by a dentist with the experience and training Dr. Michaelson has.

Porcelain Veneers OrlandoPorcelain veneers can look just like your real teeth. This is dependent upon several things:  a highly trained and skilled dentist, the quality of the porcelain that the veneer is made of, as well as the expertise of the dental laboratory making the veneer.

What does getting porcelain veneers look like at Alafaya Center for Cosmetic & Family Dentistry?

The best recipe for a natural looking veneer is when a dentist and a laboratory have a long-standing working relationship. Dr. Michaelson has had extensive training in the field of cosmetic dentistry and we have over 250 before and after examples in our smile gallery. All of the photos we have in our gallery are Dr. Michaelson's work and the laboratory we have used for over 15 years. For more info, contact our Orlando dental office today!

Now that we’ve placed a temporary Veneer or Crown, it is important to follow these instructions to ensure the success of your final restoration.

Chewing and Eating

If we used an anesthetic during the procedure, avoid chewing until the numbness has worn off completely.  Avoid chewing for at least one half-hour to allow the cement to set.  To keep your temporary in place, avoid eating hard or sticky foods, especially chewing gum.

Brushing and Flossing

Brush normally, but floss very carefully.  Remove floss from the side to prevent the removal of the temporary.  In some cases, we may advise you to avoid flossing around the temporary.   If your teeth are sensitive to hot, cold or pressure, use desensitizing toothpaste like Sensodyne.  If sensitivity increases or persists beyond a few days, call us.

We may advise and give you peroxide in a brush tip syringe to keep the gums clean around your temporaries and use on a daily basis.

Medication and Discomfort

If a medication is prescribed, please take as directed.

To reduce any discomfort or swelling, rinse your mouth 3 times a day with warm salt water.  It's normal for your gums to be sore for several days.

When to call us

Call us if your temporary comes off.  Save the temporary or any pieces so it can be re-cemented.  It's very important for the proper fit of your final restoration that your temporary stay in place.  Call our office if the bite feels uneven, you have sensitivity or discomfort that increases or continues beyond 3 to 4 days, or if you have any questions or concerns.

We will be seeing you 2-3 days after preparation to evaluate your temporaries and finalize your case with the laboratory.

Veneers | Orlando FL Dentist The lifespan of veneers depends on many things – the skill of the doctor, the laboratory used, your home care routine, your commitment to regular checkups and cleanings, and your compliance with wearing a guard if prescribed.

Dr. Michaelson has had years of continuing education on cosmetic treatment to provide superior service in this field. We have been using the same dental laboratory and ceramist for over 16 years, which has given our patients results they couldn’t have imagined were possible.

Once your cosmetic treatment is completed, we will continue to see you for your cleanings and exams. At that time, we’ll check and review proper home care techniques to ensure the longevity of your veneers. We have patients with veneers cases that go back 20 years, and we love seeing them with their beautiful smiles. Call our office today!

Since each of our patients has unique cosmetic concerns, the cost of a procedure like veneers varies widely from person to person. For example, some patients may only want to repair one or two teeth, while others may want to use porcelain veneers to redesign their smiles.

So, it’s difficult to say with any accuracy how much yours will cost until we see you and understand what your smile goals are. Then, Dr. Michaelson will create a plan customized just for you, and our team will help you fit your treatment comfortably into your budget.

How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost in Orlando?

Generally speaking, the cost of veneers in Orlando ranges from about $500 to $1300 for each tooth; however, when you consider the price, keep in mind that dental veneers last for ten years on average, and they can help you achieve your dream smile.

A lower-cost option for porcelain veneers is composite veneers that we apply through a procedure called dental bonding. We don’t have to alter your tooth shape with composites, and there’s no outside lab involved. However, composite veneers don't have the lifespan of porcelain and last about only five years.

Affordable Dentist in Orlando, FL

Dental insurances rarely cover cosmetic dentistry, so you want to be sure to look for a skilled Orlando dentist who provides patient financing options. At Alafaya Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we offer both CareCredit and Lending Club.

CareCredit is a credit card used for medical and dental care, and it helps patients pay for treatments that aren't covered by insurance. In addition, LendingClub offers customized loan options depending on your specific needs. Both of these financing options can help break the cost of cosmetic dentistry into monthly payments that may be more affordable for your budget.
