Natural-Looking Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers are very thin shells of porcelain that bond to the front surfaces of your teeth. Though the veneer is wafer-thin, it becomes strong and durable during the bonding process. Once the veneer adheres to the tooth, it looks and works like a natural tooth. Since we can customize your veneers, they can be used to correct many different cosmetic concerns, including:

  • Misshapen teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Stained or discolored enamel
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Gaps or uneven spaces

Veneers are translucent and blend in with the rest of the smile; in fact, most people would never be able to tell just by looking at you. Porcelain veneers give you the option of designing your own beautiful and natural-looking smile!

Looking Good for Your Special Occasion

There are moments in life that are so special you want to do something big to commemorate them. Many of our Orlando, FL patients ask about porcelain veneers before a wedding, family or class reunion, or to celebrate an achievement. It’s the perfect way to treat yourself that makes you look and feel good! Because dental veneers are stain-resistant; you are investing in straight, healthy-looking teeth that won’t get dingy over time from wine, coffee, or other staining foods.

One of Dr. Michaelson’s favorite moments in his day is seeing the first, new smile from his patients when they see their new teeth. At Alafaya Center for Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we love the excitement and joy that happens when we help correct an imperfection.

Placing Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin shells that fit on the surface of your tooth. During the procedure, a small amount of tooth structure is removed to ensure that they fit naturally against your tooth and gum line. We will take an impression along with photos of your smile and send it to our talented porcelain ceramist who will custom craft your veneers.

While your new veneers get fabricated, you’ll wear natural-looking temporaries. When they’re ready, we’ll have you return to our office for their placement. In many cases, we can complete the veneers process in just two visits. Placing dental veneer is pain-free and relatively quick.

No-Prep Veneers

As the name implies, no-prep veneers require little to no alteration of your natural tooth structure. No-prep veneers are a conservative cosmetic option that can be used to correct many of the same issues as traditional veneers. Just like veneers, we can use this conservative option to close spaces, change the shape and color of your teeth, and even out your alignment.

No-prep veneers are custom crafted in a dental lab just like traditional veneers and bond to the front-facing surface of the teeth. There is minimal preparation involved, so we don’t need to numb the teeth for the procedure. No-prep veneers are a conservative solution that corrects flaws, enhances your smile, and offers the added advantage of preserving healthy tooth structure.

What Is the Difference Between Lumineers and Traditional Veneers?

You may have heard of Lumineers, which are one type of no-prep veneer. Lumineers are extremely thin (approximately 0.2 mm) and translucent. Traditional veneers are thicker and therefore require a little grinding of the tooth’s surface.  Due to their small size, Lumineers do not require any prep or grinding. Despite their thin nature, they are durable and with proper care can last over 20 years. If you are investing in your self and are interested in veneers but don’t want to commit to having the surface of your tooth altered to place the veneer; this might be the best option for you.

If you’re interested in learning more about Lumineers, please give us a call.

Are You the Right Candidate for Dental Veneers?

Dr. Michaelson can determine if you are the right candidate during your initial office visit. However, as with many dental cosmetic procedures, the teeth and gums must be healthy. Since veneers can crack or chip, this may not be a good option for patients who grind or clench their jaw. Let Dr. Michaelson know if you grind your teeth; he often offers mouthguards to wear while sleeping.

Taking Care of Your Veneers

Your new veneer will function just like a natural tooth; however, you do need to take care when biting into hard or crunchy foods to avoid chipping or breaking the veneer. Care and maintenance are similar to your natural teeth; regular brushing and flossing are essential in keeping your veneer and teeth healthy.

Veneers can last for a long time with proper maintenance and regular dental visits. For most of our Orlando, FL patients, veneers can last between 10 to 20 years.
